While The Brothers Barton are in between gigs and loving life they enjoy mentoring the passionate.
"Lessons are lessons" notes Paul Barton. "If I was a lecturing teacher then results would be slow and boring. Mentoring is more like training and coaching. Mentoring someone who has passion is the only recipe for off the chart forward momentum." says Paul. "The look on their face when it just seems to click......is priceless. After that, it's like we moved from a glider to a jet in a week!"
Those of us who know Paul know that he has a unique way to "tune in" to a person. We're convinced this discernment like insight is in the Bartons DNA. Who knows for sure? What we do know by watching Paul is that he has the "the gift to encourage". Even if one's fingers get temporarily tangled up by concerns, distractions or insecurities Paul is quick to get to the "heart of the matter" and away they go. There is also a dynamic of what some call "Weather Systems". If you spend time with someone who is gifted in an area it will start rubbing off on you. It's like you get caught up in their gifting or talent level (Weather System). You'll increase by just being around them. Likewise if you're in the company of the mediocre you'll find it hard to be more than just average. Lessons by DVD or a large group, although cheaper, have average results.
There is no substitute for supercharged one on one professional mentoring. If mentoring through your school years could have taken you from kindergarten to college in half the time and half the stress would you have wanted that?
Here's how Paul's mentoring sessions work:
• 1st session and orientation is free. Usually about 2 hours. Some talking, some jamming, dreams, goals and sometimes just sorting though it all in a sounding board kind of way. The orientation will touch lightly on song writing, stage and audience insights, bookings and booking agents, pre-concert prep, audience participation, recording challenges etc. If you both click then the meter starts the following week.
• Mandolin sessions are $85 each and last generally an hour and fifteen minutes. Paul is not bound by the clock. If there is serious momentum in the session then it can last longer. He will not quench the moment or the inspiration unless he has no choice.
• Payment is for (12) weeks in advance. If you miss a session it can not be made up. If you decide you want to learn the tuba instead, before the 12 weeks is up, there is no refund.
• Sessions are held at Paul & Sarah Barton's home in Bakersfield or at your Bakersfield home, whichever you're comfortable with. Obviously a zero distraction environment is key.
